2016 adult classes

Adult art classes happen on Monday and Wednesday mornings and evening.

Monday mornings
Beginners landscape watercolours

18th January - 21st March
10 week course,
10am - 12pm
£ 160

You will learn how to use different brushes, choose and mix colours, apply colours. You will learn a series of different techniques including wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brushing, using masking fluid, different wash techniques. and lifting out. We shall create series of small landscape studies over the course.  

You will be required to provide your own paint and brushes but all masking fluid and paper, palettes etc will be provided. A list of equipment will be given nearer the time.

Intermediate landscape watercolours
11th April - 13th June
10 week course ,
10am-12pm
£160

You will learn how to create a good composition, understanding how to work a whole landscape painting. We will look at adding buildings into a landscape and creating a good tonal balance to our paintings.

You will be required to provide your own paint and brushes but all masking fluid and paper, palettes etc will be provided. A list of equipment will be given nearer the time.

Creative watercolours
22nd August - 26th September

In this course you will learn some creative techniques to expand your understanding of how you can use watercolours. You will learn salt, bleach, cling film, splatter, scraffito, wax resist, sponge, alcohol techniques.

You will be required to provide your own paint and brushes but all masking fluid and paper, palettes etc will be provided. A list of equipment will be given nearer the time.


Beginners drawing
3rd October -5th December
10 week course

You will learn about perspective, measuring, ellipses and cylinders, composition, strength of line, mark making, tone and cross hatching. We will be drawing from a still life and you will grow in confidence in many drawing skills and your observation will be sharpened.

You will be required to bring some basic equipment but all paper and fixative will be provided.

WEDNESDAY MORNINGS

Drawing the human figure 
Beginners and Intermediate levels
20th January -23rd March
10 week course    
10am -12pm

You will draw from a live model and learn or increase your understanding of proportions, measurement, anatomy  and tone using pencil and charcoal to create full figure studies.  
We will cover a variety of poses including standing, kneeling and sitting.

You will be required to provide some basic art materials. All paper, boards and fixative will be provided.

Body parts 
(beginners and intermediate levels)
13th April - 15th June

You will draw from a live model. We will be zooming in on body parts and learning about the underlying skeletal and muscular system which helps to shape the figure and inform our drawing. we will draw legs, arms, hands, feet and spine connections.  This is a great way to improve your observation and understanding of the figure.

You will be required to provide some basic art materials. All paper, boards and fixative will be provided.

The human head in colour 
24thAugust  - 28th September
6 week course

You will draw from a live model. We will be learning how to use coloured pencil, pastel and inks in drawing the human head. We will learn how to suggest tone with mark making and create layers of colour.

You will be required to provide some basic art materials. All paper, boards and fixative will be provided.

The body in colour
12th  October- 14th December
10 week course

You will draw from a live model. We will be learning how to use chalk pastel, oil pastel, inks and coloured pencils on different papers to create an interesting image of the human figure.

You will need to provide a basic set of materials but all paper, boards and fixative will be provided.

WEDNESDAY EVENINGS
Drawing and painting a portrait in acrylic and oils. 
(for beginners and intermediate level)

PART 1

PART2

20 week course in 2 parts

£320 or 2 instalments of £160

You will be working from your own photographs of a portrait. You will learn how to draw from faces from photographs and then move on to painting the human face. You will learn colour mixing and how to create tonal layers in your portrait. We will use acrylic paint for the under layers and work with oils for the tope layers.

You will be required to provide some  art materials. All paper, canvas, boards and thinners will be provided.

Drawing the landscape
24th August - 19th October
10 week course  
7pm-9pm

In this course, we will use a variety of drawing techniques to create a wide range of landscape sketches. We will use chalk pastels, pen and ink, oil pastel, charcoal, pencil, coloured pencil and felt pens. We will explore how mark making can help create an interesting landscape. We will also explore how different surfaces can enhance your drawing.

You will need to bring a set of art materials. All canvas, boards, thinners, palettes are provided.

Colour explosion 
 
26th October - 30th November
6 week course

In this course we will look deeper into colour theory and colour mixing and how colour affects a painting. You can work on any subject whether still life or landscape. We will venture into colour studies including monochromatic, analogous, complimentary, polychromatic . We shall learn about limiting our palette and we will use a variety of medium.

You will need to bring a set of art materials with you but all boards, canvas, paper, easels, thinners, palettes are provided.
